But when you show trust and let people in, your “secrets” (IP, etc.) become their secrets too.

The response has been mixed: with optimism and negativity.
I find the negative responses to be a good example of the inability to think long-term.

Besides reading this for the story itself (you should, it’s incredible), this is a great article on relational-life prisons. It shows what happens in our personal lives when we lock down due to distrust and only consider what has been for what’s possible.
